What the app asks for
- URL
- The full address, with the port if it is not the default. Nextcloud: https://cloud.example.com/remote.php/dav/files/USER/. ownCloud: https://cloud.example.com/remote.php/webdav/. Synology: https://diskstation.local:5006.
- User
- Your user name on the server.
- Password
- Your password. For Nextcloud, use an app password.
Turn WebDAV on first. On a Synology install the WebDAV Server package and use its HTTPS port, 5006. On a QNAP the HTTPS port is 5001.
In Nextcloud, make an app password under Settings, Security, Devices & sessions. Use it here instead of your main password.
Good to know
- Use an https:// address. A plain http:// address sends your password unprotected.
- These characters cannot be in a name: \ : * ? " < > |.
- A name cannot end in a dot or a space.
- Away from home, make sure your Mac can reach the server, with a VPN if it sits on a home network.
